County Office of Education accepting entries for Student Art Showcase

FAIRFIELD — Art submissions for the 2022 Solano Student Art Showcase are being accepted.

The May 21 event, which will feature divisions for students in fourth through sixth grades, seventh and eighth grades, ninth and 10th grades, 11th and 12th grades and nontraditional, will take place at McCormack Hall on the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo.

“Art can be an amazing outlet for creativity and self-expression, especially during difficult times. Year after year, the art submitted by Solano students is a remarkable representation of the voices, personalities and resilience of our young people. I am excited to see what students create this year,” Solano Superintendent of Schools Lisette Estrella-Henderson said in a statement.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three places in each division, plus honorable mention and four pieces being awarded best of show. Local artists will be the judges.

The showcase will feature live performances, a virtual art display, an in-person art exhibit, community health fair and local food trucks.

The goal of the showcase is to recognize the resiliency of all young artists during Covid by supporting and promoting mental health and wellness, in addition to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention, the Office of Education statement said.

Community agencies and student organizations can submit applications to host a free booth during the event. Hosts are encouraged to present their booth as family friendly and include opportunities to engage attendees through activities, education and/or direct services.

The Solano County Office of Education has partnered with the Benicia Police Department; Benicia Youth Action Coalition; Dixon Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Coalition; Drug Safe Solano; Club Stride; Fighting Back Partnership; Nature of Sound; Rio Vista Alliance; Solano Family Justice Center; Solano County Friday Night Live; Solano County Public Health; Solano Youth Coalition; Touro University; and VIBE Solano to host the annual Solano Student Art Showcase.

Submission from students for performing or static art are being accepted through April 29. For event details, booth applications and guidelines for student submissions, visit
